How I Tripled My Twitter Followers In 10 Days

This is an excellent “getting started” strategy for twitter. If you don’t have many followers, what’s the point of publishing and posting all your great information? So I recommend using this system to get a good bump in the number of followers. When I implemented this strategy, I began with just over 300 followers, and after 10 days, I’d cracked 1,000.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Follow First

Don’t wait for others to follow you. Start following the top experts you know of in your field – I mean the big name gurus. If you’re in weight loss, follow Jillian Michaels, etc… If you’re in personal development, follow Tony Robbins, Brain Tracy, etc…

Now, all the lists on twitter are open source. So anyone can access anyone’s follower lists – even the big names!

So start by following:

  1. People who have recently followed mentors, colleagues, experts, gurus
  2. Use “search.twitter.com” and search for fresh subject matter on your topic
  3. Follow at best time of day:
  • 1pm-3pm
  • 8pm-11pm
  • Weekends rule
  • 6pm-11pm Sunday evenings

Be consistent in this new building process:

  • Follow 30-50 a day at first
  • 10% of list after 500 (If 300 followers, follow 30)

Follow Active Tweeters; people who are real and actively tweeting.

  • Photos of faces (unless valued brand)
  • Don’t follow those who are following thousands of people and only a have few tweets and almost no followers (that’s probably a spammer)

2. Only Tweet Proven Content:

Twitter is oddly personal, and quite frankly, some of my most viral posts have been goofy/funny things. Not necessarily stuff directly related to my business. And on twitter, that’s ok. So each day, aim to send out about 10 different posts covering five main categories of information:

  • Improve their lives (30%) 3 tweets
  • Informative (30%) 3 tweets
  • Funny (Laugh out loud) (10%) 1 tweet
  • Complements/Comments (20%) 2 tweets
  • What you do (10%) 1 tweet

That’s just during this “triple your followers” strategy. Otherwise, I recommend sticking to your subject matter. But in this strategy of building followers quickly, mix it up a bit.

How to find proven content:

  • Stumbleupon.com
  • Alltop.com
  • popurls.com
  • digg.com

Socialoomph.com or Hootsuite.com for timing when you want to post articles (not comments or messages) so you don’t have to be there

  • To get re-tweeted you must first retweet
  • Short messages
  • Ask for retweets by Direct Message once you have a relationship with someone
